Antinomies 1

Antinomies 1, a groundbreaking concert at the esteemed Ibirapuera´s Auditorium in 2017, featured a meticulously crafted set design in collaboration with Antonio Rodrigues. This innovative set design project marked the pinnacle of Ricardo Stuani’s extensive academic exploration, emphasizing the fusion of graphics scores with avant-garde music production.

The concert’s centrepiece was the performance of “Antinomies I,” a composition by Rogerio Duprat, initially penned in 1962 but lost during a London subway trip the same year. Rediscovered decades later within the Duprat family collection, the composition returned triumphantly to the world stage in June 2017. This immersive multimedia endeavour shed light on the profound interconnections between avant-garde music and the concrete movement in Sao Paulo.

Rooted in the late 1960s, an era marked by dynamic media growth, Duprat’s forays into cinema soundtracks, electroacoustic music, happenings, and Pop art laid the groundwork for the compelling and expressive set design.

The set design transcended its conventional role, symbolizing the intricate harmony between visual and auditory art forms. Each circle intricately represented a musical score, meticulously synchronized with the orchestra’s rhythm. The dynamic city skyline portrayed at the concert’s inception encapsulated the narrative essence, infusing depth and resonance into the overall experience.

As Ricardo Stuani’s doctoral thesis at the University of Canterbury, this research project stands as a testament to the profound interplay between visual and auditory art, delivering an immersive and captivating experience for the audience.
