Inclusion of Immigrant Women through Brazilian Culture
Challenge
Many migrant and refugee-background women face barriers to social connection, confidence and participation in their new communities, particularly during the early stages of settlement.
Approach
Artecture designed and facilitated a community-led programme that used Brazilian culture as a platform for inclusion, wellbeing and intercultural exchange. Through dance, storytelling, creative workshops and shared conversations, participants built relationships, shared lived experiences and developed stronger connections with their local community. The programme was delivered in partnership with the Canterbury Refugee Resettlement and Resource Centre and evolved in response to participants’ interests and needs.
Outcome
The initiative strengthened social networks, increased participants’ confidence and sense of belonging, and created opportunities for meaningful intercultural dialogue. It demonstrated how culturally responsive, community-led programmes can reduce isolation, encourage participation and foster more connected and inclusive communities.
